And we’re back!
News, and no news. We're still long on nature, climate tech as old as the dinosaurs.
Unlike the dinosaurs our podcast has not gone extinct!
It’s been a while since we put out our last “Solving Climate, Naturally” episode. A lot has happened since then!
Julia had a baby and changed her last name. Kate moved to London. Ida got married and started a new job with Galvanize Climate Solutions. Oh! And the Inflation Reduction Act passed, ChatGPT launched, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (IC-VCM) dropped the highly anticipated, first part of the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) which many market proponents deemed a disappointing start but are still holding out hope for the next installment, the world decided to commit to protecting 30% of the planet by 2030 at COP15 in Montreal, crypto tanked, Silicon Valley Bank went under leaving many climate folks unsettled… A lot has changed!
But a lot hasn’t changed! The Guardian and Bloomberg are still producing exposés on the voluntary carbon market leaving buyers increasingly anxious to get engaged, the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) still hasn’t provided more clarity on which removals and offsets can count towards what net zero goals and when they can count further delaying investment and action, and the world still hasn’t gotten its collective act together on solving the climate crisis (see IPCC AR6 Synthesis report). The good news is that nature is still one of the most readily available, scalable, deployable, and cost-effective solutions we have to tackle climate change!
We know one thing: the nature based solutions space is poised to change in big ways this year. So we’re back to give you more in-depth discussion with the innovators, experts, practitioners, and veterans who are leading the way at this critical time for the field and our planet. We plan to dive into emerging certification standards, tackle some of the tougher questions around integrity and quality, explore the latest in digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (and yes, we mean blockchain!), learn about tradeoffs and lessons learned for biodiversity, as well as feature more voices from communities on the ground.
